10,000 Steps and GrowWithJo – Week Two

Did you see my stats from last week?! I’m headed in the right direction!

At first this week I was going to just walk in the afternoon. A 2.5 mile walk so definitely not a stroll, but I wouldn’t have been targeting my arms or my abs. I had just about talked myself out of doing the GrowWithJo videos because I’ve just never really liked doing exercise videos, really exercising for the sake of exercising at all. And so in general, I really have to talk myself into putting them on and doing them. Also this weekend, I wasn’t really feeling like I had made a difference. I had a bit too much to eat, and since I missed one of the workouts I had planned to do (making it three days in a row of no exercise) I thought for sure I’d still be the same on the scale or worse. But I went down a whole pound! And went down at least half an inch everywhere! So I decided to buckle down and do the videos again this week. I’m going to aim for all five days but won’t beat myself up if I only do four like last week. Also, it was really cold this week, and just doing doggie walks on the beach was enough outdoor time for me. 

Here’s how it went:

And I did GrowWithJoFAST 3 Mile Dance Party (Most Fun and Easy Workout)

I think I mentioned this last week, but I want to mention it again. Don’t try to keep time with Jo. Check out the side of the screen for the next movement. Once you’ve got it down, just go at your own pace. You’ll still feel the burn even if you’re not going as fast as Jo, even if you feel you’re going at a snail’s pace, I promise you, you’ll FEEL THE BURN. Also, you’ll make less mistakes and possibly get through most of the time for each movement too if you go at your own pace. I’m figuring I’ll speed up the more I do. Anyway, I mention all this because this was a shorter, easier workout, but there were moments that I really felt it, you know? And I wanted to take a breather till the next exercise. But I just slowed down a bit or paused a beat or two and then pushed on, and you know what? I did it! All the way through with no breaks! Go me!

Tuesday: Total step count for the day: 10037!!!

And I did GrowWithJo3 Mile Low Impact HIIT Dance Party |No Equipment

I did the whole thing without stopping!! I’m so proud of myself. AND it was a long one, about 50 minutes! Go me! Either I’m getting used to the moves and my body is getting used to all the extra movement, or doing the moves at my own pace is really working. I’ll admit I’m going slower than Jo, but I feel like going the entire time for each move is a bigger win. For me anyway. For now. At some point I’m sure I’ll work my way up to being able to keep time with her, but for now I’m going to be exceptionally proud of me!

Wednesday: Total step count for the day: 10904!!!

And I did GrowWithJo3 MILE Fat Burning Indoor Walk (Burn up to 500 calories!!) Beginner Friendly

This one seemed to go faster than the others. Not sure why though. I also feel like I had an easier time keeping up with Jo for most of this one. Towards the end I was slowing down. And I didn’t have that bounce to my movements that she has. I have yet to be able to keep up with her bounce. But the actual movements I’m starting to be able to keep up with her. And being able to do all of this the week before my period is kind of freaking awesome! Usually, this week I’m super tired and can’t talk myself into anything other than sitting. So, I’m definitely tired, and I had a harder time today talking myself into doing this workout, but I did it! 

Thursday: Total step count for the day: 4720

I didn’t do any exercise videos today.

Marty, the dog from next door we’ve been watching for the past few weeks, went home today. As dogs go, he’s really very easy and a good boy. But somehow he decided that I’m his primary caretaker when he’s here, so I do the majority of walks, and feedings, and pill times. And by the time he goes home, I’m usually kind of beat. So my steps are just the walks I did with him. 

Friday: Total step count for the day: 3222

I didn’t do any exercise videos today either. It was Christmas Eve, and I decided to give myself an exercise cheat day. Also, wanted a day to recoup from Marty. And time to vacuum/wash all the hair off everything. For some reason he was doing his fall shedding now, in December. 

Saturday: Total step count for the day: 8194

I didn’t do any exercise videos today, but I did go out for a 3 mile walk this morning. I got around 7000 steps with that alone! It was a gray day but warm. And I got myself out around the same early time I was going with Marty, but with the grayness, it was kind of still dark out and had that feel that everyone else was still sleeping and I had the entire boardwalk to myself. Sometimes I really need some quiet space like that.

Sunday: Total step count for the day: 1040

I didn’t do any exercise videos today. I got my period today, and I know some people have a fairly easy time with their periods, but not me. I usually take it easy for the first day or two, if I can. Not the best week, but not the worst either. I got two days of hitting my 10,000 steps goal, and that’s great! Next week, it’ll be better.
