    Brene Brown’s Call to Courage

    May 25, 2022 /

Brene Brown has a special on Netflix about vulnerability. It’s about an hour, and if you want some inspiration about courage and vulnerability I highly recommend it. I was planning on jotting down my opinions and thoughts about the special, but honestly, I found so much of it inspirational. So I’m going to put down some of her thoughts that really spoke to me, and let them (her) speak for herself.  First off she has a TED talk. This is how she got her start as an inspirational speaker and author. She also references her book, Daring Greatly. I have this on my to read list. And now for some highlights from her Netflix special:…

Surprising Reasons You are Self Sabotaging Your Own Happiness

    May 23, 2022 /

See this quote above? Yes, it’s from the start of the year. I knew I wanted to write about self-sabotage, mostly because I’m realizing more and more that I have a not so healthy relationship with it. I saw this quote back in January, there are many other really good introspective quotes at Source Messages, and held off writing about it, because I really wanted some time to mull it over.  The lines that struck me the most were: “You’re no longer sabotaging situations when they’re going well. You’re seeing things for what they are instead of through the lens of your past conditioning.” Sabotaging things when they’re going well? We…

Manifesting – it’s simple but far from easy

    May 16, 2022 /

Everyone says manifesting something is so easy! You just set your intention, let it go, and then wait for it to come to you. There are also those who will remind you to “expect the unexpected.” Easy peasy! But what everyone neglects to talk about is that once you’ve got yourself really focusing on something (setting your intention), it’s not so easy to simply switch your focus to something else or simply forget about it and go on with your day (letting it go). I mean once I’ve got that daydream going in full technicolor vividness, it’s the hardest thing for me to stop the daydream. I can really get…

When I first moved back in with my mom and was trying to figure out how the heck I had gotten there and what I wanted my next steps to be, I realized I had a lot of mental stuff to unpack. There were all these feelings of frustration and disappointment, and even some depression (both menopausal and situational). I sort of instinctually knew that I was being sent back to the place where a bunch of my childhood emotional issues had been created in order to finally deal with them and not simply ignore them. I knew I needed to open up the little mental black box where I…

Learning through Masterclass: Mental Strength with Robin Arzon

    May 11, 2022 /

Are you familiar with Masterclass? It’s basically a site with mini classes taught by well known people in an area of their expertise. There are courses in everything from food and cooking, to music and the arts, business, science, wellness and everything in between. There’s such a wealth of knowledge, I thought they might be fun to discuss on this blog.  I decided to start with Robin Arzon. Who I knew nothing about, by the way. She spoke about mental strength, and what I related to the most was when she talked about transitioning from what she had spent her life focusing on and completely switching to something entirely different. Which is…

Change is Never Easy, Resisting is Quite Common Though

    May 9, 2022 /

Have you heard of the five stages of change? I am familiar with the five stages of grief. But while I was listening to my meditation app, it presented a mini lesson on the five stages of change.  Briefly, the five stages of change are: Pre-contemplation: I’m not thinking about it, not seeing necessity.Contemplation: I might be thinking about it, but feeling unsure.Preparation: I’m interested, but not sure what to do/how to accomplish the change.Action: I’m actively working on making a change.Maintenance: I’m actively working on maintaining a change I’ve made. In the couple of articles I found, they both talked about change in behavior. But I think this model works for life changes too.…

Fitness Update After 10,000 Steps Challenge

    May 6, 2022 /

I realized that it’s been quite a while since I posted a fitness update. The reason being that the progress has been very slow. I’d been posting my measurements each week, and it looked like the numbers were barely moving, so I got kind of discouraged and stopped posting. But I didn’t stop exercising, I’m proud to say! Or at least walking. Walking has been the one thing I’ve been consistent with the past several months actually. If you go back and read my previous fitness posts, the 10,000 steps posts, you’ll see that I was a little bit all over the place, trying different YouTube videos, and working myself up to 10,000 steps.…

    May 4, 2022 /

I was originally going to focus today’s post on Maria Shriver’s weekly newsletter, particularly, this post. She wrote it at the beginning of the year as a kind of taking stock of where things are and where they’re going. More so, where you want them to go.  At the same time, I’m sitting here putting together my work objectives for this year for my 9-5 desk job. (Yes, in case you’re wondering, I am procrastinating the job thing by writing this blog post!) Also, it is the end of March at the time I’m writing this, the astrological new year, around the spring equinox, and there’s a new moon at the end…

Are Routines the Means to a More Mindful, Meaningful Life?

    May 2, 2022 /

I’ve been struggling with my routines lately, and consequently am not getting done all I want to each day. It’s a bit annoying, because back in December I had worked out a whole schedule for myself. One in which I got everything done that I wanted to in a day. Both things for my 9-5 desk job, and also things for my blog. I had plenty of time, more than enough time in fact. And not just for work related tasks, but for exercising, and personal care (face washing, showering). I had it all worked out, and for the month of December it did work out just as planned.  But…
